Chapter 6.1

Today we learned about right triangles and the trigonometric functions of an acute angle of a right triangle. Hopefully I can get you all the good information to help you out.

First off you need to know what each side of a triangle is called, as related to the specific acute angle that you are working with.

Now here's all the juicy formulas you've been waiting for.
For the firt set just remember SOA CAH TOA.
sin θ= opp/hyp

cos θ= adj/ hyp

tan θ= opp/adj

And for the reciprocals it is CHO SHA CAO.

csc θ= hyp/opp

sec θ= hyp/adj

cot θ= adj/ opp

These formulas can be applied to any right triangle. Since we know that the first three formulas and the second three formulas are reciprocals of each other we can use what are called reciprocal identities.

sin θ= 1/ csc θ

cos θ= 1/ sec θ

tan θ= 1/ cot θ

csc θ= 1/ sin θ

sec θ= 1/ cos θ

cot θ= 1/ tan θ

Also when working with right triangles it is important to remember some of the properties of specific right triangles, such as:
The 30 60 90 triangle.

And the 45 45 90 triangle.

Thank you all for coming to today's blog post.
